Workstyle reform through the introduction of telework
Why did you decide to implement telework?
In September 2016, I separated from the company for two months to cross the United States by rental car to establish a comprehensive financial company in New York.
At that time, I could have one-on-one discussions via Skype. With a 13-hour time difference with New York, when I Skyped the company at 7:30 PM, I could participate in the morning meeting starting at 8:30 AM. Despite being 10,000 km apart, we could communicate as if we were next to each other. It made me feel the potential of future work styles.
On February 11, 2020, when telework systems were becoming commonplace at Net Insurance, the first wave of COVID-19 occurred. We immediately created a COVID-19 response BCP. We divided operations into three phases: in the first phase, high-risk sales personnel did not come to the office; in the second phase, administrative staff also did not come to the office; and in the third phase, even the CEO did not come to the office. We established a system that could adapt by managing operations in these three phases.
I think there are three factors that contributed to 11 Net's success with telework:
1. The distance between 11 Net's office and New York quickly made employees understand the necessity of telework.
2. The challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic conveyed the necessity of telework to customers as well.
3. Creating three phases allowed us to identify problems from different perspectives.

The advantages of implementing telework include:
11 We asked Mr. Yoshichi, Sales Director of Net Insurance
Yoshichi: The biggest advantage is that you can use your time effectively.
Before the introduction of the service, commuting from Mitoyo City took approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes when it was busy.
However, since the system was introduced, I have only been coming to work two days a week.
Reporter: Do you only come into the office two days a week?
Yoshichi: I'm at an age where I start to feel tired.
The physical exhaustion caused by commuting has been reduced, and I can now work feeling refreshed the next day.
Reporter: It can help compensate for physical decline and boost mental energy as well.
Yoshiji: Having more time flexibility allowed for increased customer visits and enabled us to have relaxed consultations and proposals with customers.
記者:お客様ともより深い信頼関係を構築できますね。
Yoshiji: Also, my earlier return home has enriched my day, allowing for more fulfilling private time, including hobbies.
Reporter: That sounds enviable. You can lead a fulfilling life with hobbies and all.
Yoshiji: I can also confidently face the issue of caring for my aging parents.
Reducing travel time by car also contributes to SDG Goal 13, "Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts."
Reporter: It also contributes to solving Japan's aging society issue, doesn't it?
